Join us at the Swipe bar for a double shot—a mixed drink and a hard look at your data-self. Encoding personal knowledge of the individual, the bar codes or magnetic stripes on our driver's licenses reveal far more than most people are aware. Order a drink at the SWIPE bar, and the result could be sobering. As the bartender prepares your TIA (Total Information Awareness) Cocktail, she swipes your driver's license for age verification, and the Swipe "cash register" produces a receipt containing your "data-self": all the personal data on you swiped from an online super search of Internet databases. A workshop will be held on to discuss data collection and mining practices by businesses and the government and the methodologies used for collecting the SWIPE data.
This is a hands-on demonstrative workshop explaining the technologies and policies in place that facilitate your private information becoming a commodity. Some laptops will be provided, but due to limited availability, please bring your own laptop to this demonstration.
