Brain Storming at the Beall

Brain Storming Sessions at the Beall Center - MORPHONANO includes the premier of "Brain Storming" consisting of a series of performances over the course of the exhibition.

FEB 5 - Brain Storming session 1: Brain Storming
FEB 25 - Brain Storming session 2: Water
MAY 5 - Brain Storming session 3:  Turing.

"Brain Storming" is a highly experimental piece that utilizes straightforward technology with high-end brain scientists engaging artists and humanists in dialogue.  Specifically the artist is interested in investigating how weather patterns are reflected on the electrical activity patterns of our brains and, philosophically, to ask if the human social upheavals are related to natural disasters.  This speaks historically to at least Elizabethan times where Shakespeare frequently linked the events of nature to the deeds of humans as many poets still do and remains a strong motif in today's popular culture.

The first "Brain Storming" session happened during the opening reception on February 5.  Participants included neuroscientist Mark Cohen, computer scientist Ramesh Jain, nanoscientist James Gimzewski, artist director David Familian, UCI CTSA dean Joseph S. Lewis III, artist Victoria Vesna, with additional guests sitting in throughout the opening.
