CHRISTA SOMMERER and LAURENT MIGNONNEAU are French and Austrian digital artists whose installations and net-works feature uniquely "lifelike" systems based on evolutionary software. They began their collaboration in 1992 at the Institute for New Media in Frankfurt. They are the recipients of the prestigious Golden Nica Award for A-Volve at Ars Electronica '94 (Linz, Austria). Their work has been shown internationally, and they participate in numerous symposia. Their work is in a number of collections including the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, the Cartier Foundation in Paris, the ZKM Media Museum in Karlsruhe and the ICC InterCommunication Museum in Tokyo. Currently they are researchers and artistic directors at ATR Media Integration & Communications Research Laboratories (MIC) in Kyoto.
