BY AND ABOUT BRECHT: A Mini Festival

The Drama and Studio Art Departments of the UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts have teamed up to present a pair of works created and inspired by the seminal German playwright and theorist Bertolt Brecht.

Leading off the Festival on February 23, 2012, is an original theatrical work, Galileo in America, by writer-artist Antoinette LaFarge and director Robert Allen.  The surreal epic is about Brecht's exile years in California during WWII when he was working on a new production of his play about the life of Galileo.

In April the Festival continues with director Ryanne Laratona's production of Brecht's powerful play Mother Courage and Her Children, which dissects the brutal business of war.

The By and About Brecht mini festival is a timely theatrical confrontation with our national disquiet over the realities of war, the price of success, and the erosion of civil liberties.

Tickets may be purchased to each play (at $15 each) or are available at a special discount ($10 each) when purchasing tickets to both.  Go to www.arts.uci.edu/tickets
