Thee fear of an Orwellian existence has made us highly suspicious of surveillance for decades, but what happens when you invite “Big Brother” into your home? Many consumers unknowingly participate in implicit surveillance by corporations in exchange for convenience. What are the unintended consequences of digital utilities in the age of Siri, Alexa, and “Hey Google,” and how are we grappling with these concerns? Speakers will be recruited from the departments of Informatics and Computer Sciences and Business, as well as a selection of professional artists. A full speaker list will be published two weeks prior to the event at beallcenter.uci.edu.

This event is FREE with registration; light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
